PlayStation has experimented with mobile gaming in the past with the Xperia Play smartphone (see right), but now the manufacturer is promising even more with the PlayStation 4. The new console will sync with iOS and Android devices using an official app.
Following the launch event in New York City on 21 February, Sony announced players will be able to download the PlayStation Offi cial Appto their smartphones and tablets and use them as ‘second screens’ for their gaming. This will allow players to view maps on one screen while playing games on their television, and watch other users’ gameplay remotely. The app will also allow you to purchase games through the PlayStation Network and download them directly to the console.
There is currently no launch date for the PlayStation Official App, but the PlayStation 4 itself is not expected until winter. At the moment, there will be no actual gaming available on the app – it’s meant to be a companion for the console. The handheld PlayStation Vita, however, has gained a Remote Play feature that allows gamers to pull PS4 games from their TV to the 5-inch device
